The future of humanity

With great interest I am following the current discussion on “Singularity” and the predictions around the future of humanity. There is strong evidence that we are not far from the time that Artificial Intelligence could improve its own learning to such an extent that it would equal the human brain, influencing an unpredictable transformation in society. Computers with human level intelligence and human brains empowered by the Super-Intelligent AI open up to incredible scenarios.

Is this only science fiction or a logical evolution for which we should start preparing?

Danke Angelika, alles Gute!

Baking the sorrows away…

Confectionery and baking have been my hobby for years, in the passage of which I have developed my skills and difficulty level. A beautifully decorated cake or even the look of a colorful, buttercream topping cupcake are short of equivalent to “happiness pills” 🙂

And I am glad to discover friends who share that passion and are willing to sacrifice hours of sleep so that specially themed sweet creations are ready in time for the birthday party, the school fest, the guests or whatever the occasion be. Photography goes together of course, because we want not only to smell and see but also to remember and share and leave behind, as mama’s “Recipes Book”!

Here is a small collection of my sweet creations! This gallery will be gradually updated!

Things that don’t really matter

Stories that shaped the world

BBC Culture asked writers around the globe to pick stories that have endured across generations and continents – and changed society. Homer’s Odyssey topped the list, while the most popular authors of the top 100 stories were Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf and Franz Kafka, with three stories each.

A quick test for us to check how many of them we have read or even heard about. And a nice list of books to read before we die 🙂

Dedicated to my lovely sister who loves reading and writing and hopefully someday she will publish her own books!

15 minutes with self

6.30 in the morning.  Quiet all around, except the sound of birds in the background. No movement all around, still moments. You make your first cup of coffee, you take a comfortable position in your favorite place. And you stare the cup, the room, the window or just the ceiling. You think of nothing in particular, for a change. Or of very particular and perhaps very serious things, but with a clear, fresh mood. A new day. Everything is possible. IMG_20180513_074059504

A few minutes later, someone is crying/asking for mom/for that cornflakes bowl/clothes, bows, dolls appear all around. It is not quiet, nor still anymore. You now run, competing against the time. You don’t really think, you just do.

The day proceeds, you’ve done a lot, you still have a long to-do list for the rest of the day. You realize some things are not possible, at least not for today. You give your best, all your self and energy. You feel good. Or perhaps not good at all.

But you don’t really worry because you know that tomorrow is another day. And everything is possible. And you will have your 15-minute with self.

Good night stories…for rebel girls

This is one of the books I’ve been reading recently to my kids, both boy and girl. I liked it first because of its production concept – a book of crowdfunding, with contributing artists from around the globe, by award-winning journalists and writers!

Goodnight_storiesI liked it even more because of its thematic concept – the “anti-princess” book, promoting strong, healthy female prototypes of everyday women who managed to change the world!

And I am enjoying every time I’m going through its pages, full of great illustrations, quotes and short, didactic stories to tell! My children enjoy it as well, not to mention 🙂

Christmas time inspiration

…or cookie therapy at the same time, allow me to say. Each year I enjoy baking Christmas christmas_cookiescookies for the family and our friends. Its all about it, the search for recipes and decoration ideas, the time spent in stores looking for the right ingredients and cooking utensils, the process of making them, the smell around the house and the satisfaction look of loved ones tasting them… all deserving the effort.

Its also the feeling of becoming creative for a good reason, a tangible reason which is shared with others! Even if my cookies are not perfect – they are made with love and passion and they come together with kind feelings and nice memories.

This year it is Rudolph! Quick, simple decoration with a funny result, very popular among the little ones! Here’s to Rudolph then 🙂 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Attitudes towards the impact of digitisation and automation on daily life

The European Commission has published a Eurobarometer survey presenting European citizens’ opinions on the impact of digitisation and automation on daily life. European citizens see digitisation and automation primarily as an opportunity but call for investment for better and faster internet services as well as effective public policy to accompany changes, in particular in areas such as employment, privacy and personal health. The results also show that the more people are informed or use technologies the more they are likely to have a positive opinion on them and to trust them.
